Our tradition, passed down from father to daughter
As everyone knows, Meursault, in Burgundy, is not only the name of a commune, but also the appellation of some of the most highly regarded Chardonnays in the world.
It is therefore not surprising that in these parts, one can become so captivated by wine that itcompletely transforms one’s life, as happened to Michael Shaps
The history of Maison Shaps began in 1990, when Michael Shaps moved from Virginia to France, where he enrolled at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune in Burgundy, one of the most prestigiousoenology schools in the world.
During his years of training Michael Michael worked on two harvests at the renowned Maison Chartron et Trebuchet in Puligny Montrachet where he played a decisive role alongside the man who wouldfirst become his mentor and then his partner, the chief oenologist of Maison Chartron et Trebuchet.
But it was in 2012 that Monsieur Shaps’s real second life began. That year, Michael opened hiswinery in Meursault, France, one of the most renowned wine villages in Burgundy, and shortlythereafter (in 2016) he purchased vineyards in the prestigious Côte de Beaune.
History, as we know, is never predictable, and today the family business is firmly in the hands of hisdaughter Hanna, the true soul of the winery, capable of producing real wonders.
Because sometimes the pupil surpasses the master and the children surpass their fathers!
