The Great Winemaking of Novi Sad – Serbia

Few in Italy are aware that Serbia, the vibrant heart of the Balkans, ranks among the world’s top wine producers. Even fewer know that in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, a diverse range of unique and highly acclaimed wines are crafted, thanks to the geographical influences of a land that has been dedicated to viticulture for centuries. This region, nestled between the rolling hills and vast forests of the Fruska Gora National Park, is traversed by the serene waters of the Danube River, whose banks tell a millennia-old story.

It is no coincidence, then, that Vojvodina’s wine region, primarily located between the municipalities of Novi Sad and Sremski Karlovci, is nothing short of paradise for enthusiasts of Bacchus’s nectar.

Here, winemaker Miodrag Bjelica, a brilliant newcomer, a bold and visionary pioneer, has achieved meteoric success with his wines (Saga, Graffiti, and Babaroga). These wines, in our view, are memorable, exuding charm and symbolism.

So exceptional, in fact, that we dare you to take up a challenge. Organize an evening with friends, winemakers, or sommeliers. Set aside any preconceptions and conduct a blind tasting, comparing Miodrag’s wines with the finest Chardonnays, Merlots, and Sauvignons you can find on the market. Then, with honesty, let us know. We can already picture you winking at us, grinning slyly beneath your breath.

Enjoy!
